Starting with the past by looking at today's news?
Think Bangladesh
because this is what life for the working class in this country was like
before unions.
There were no lower class or middle class there was the rich and the
working class.
Men, Women and Children worked for pennies a day around 18 to 20 hours a
day with no benefits, unsafe working conditions and no protection.
If you were sick or your machine blew up in your face, or your factory
collapsed, you had better keep on working.
Yes, it is true that today some unions are not worth their salt, today
union representatives drive expensive cars, live in big expensive homes and wear
expensive cloths.
However, we must also remember that they are all on call for workers 24/7
and they have to constantly face owners that walk around in shoes worth more
than my complete wardrobe, also remember labor unions can save lives.
I happen to be retired from the greatest union in the world, my opinion my
blog, problem is that the people in my place of work were/are a group of
pansies.
So many times as union steward, twice two different companies and each time
I said NO.
I would go to bat for one of those "people" only to find out later that
behind my back they were bagging to take a nickel cut in pay to not go out on
strike even long before a strike was mentioned?
You get the union that you deserve.
Yes, I also agree that many union workers make far too much money and too
many benefits for the job that they do and often their quality stinks?
Is it any better with out of the country products?
While you are thinking about that go back to remembering what life and the
quality of products was like before unions.
Remember, to the owners, the only thing that matters is the bottom line,
how much can I get away with and how much can I make.
So, what's the answer?
Well I can tell you that it is not outsourcing or selling our businesses
to people in other countries.
The answer is simple only impossible to obtain.
Both the company and the union (union workers) must agree to do their part
and go back to the beginning of negotiations.
Both sides can give a lot, this must include all business in this country
so that prices can come back down, big business still makes lots of money and
workers are still protected with a decent wage.
"The labor movement in the United States grew out of the need to protect
the common interest of workers.
For those in the industrial sector, organized labor unions fought for
better wages, reasonable hours and safer working conditions.
The labor movement led efforts to stop child labor, give health benefits
and provide aid to workers who were injured or retired.
Fire any politician that refuses to work for the good of people.
Install a spending limit used to get elected.
Hire only people for the political job that will always do the job that the
people want them to do, not what they want to do.
Then completely change the way to get on a ballot to become elected.
